I hear so many terms associated with FASD. What do they all mean, and why are they different?

FASD encompasses a number of related diagnostic conditions. To understand all the terms, start with FASD. It’s the descriptive term that includes all forms of disorders caused by fetal alcohol exposure. FASD is not a diagnosis. Other terms are actual medical diagnoses that physicians use for record keeping and billing purposes. (To complicate things, some old descriptive terms that are now out of date are still being used.)
