I have a child whose facial features seem consistent with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS)and she also has bony protrusions in the arches of both feet. She has not been diagnosed with FAS. Could these be signs that she has it?

The foot feature described is not common in children with FAS, and facial features are not necessarily the best indicator of the disorder. However, we are far from knowing all the abnormalities associated with prenatal alcohol exposure. A good first step is to consult with your pediatrician to see if additional screening might be necessary. You may also consider making an appointment with a clinical geneticist to obtain a formal diagnosis.
